Hey there Randolph Family,
This message was created before the weekend started. So keep that in mind if snow has an impact on what this week will look like.
I thought I’d start us off with a short letter I’ve written to Nim.
We were all excited to hear that Jack was able to send you a letter on Galileo’s leg. It is neat that you have so many animal friends like Selkie and Fred. Alex Rover seems like a kind person too. It is nice of you to work on the coconut raft experiment for her. It sounds like some of the STEM projects we do in Goochland.
So – if you were clueless about that letter, then you need to catch up on our Goochland Reads book, Nim’s Island! We’ve read chapters 1-4. Even if we miss a day of school, make sure to keep up with the schedule. It will be chapters 5-8 this week. A chapter a day.
A few announcements before the calendar:
- Can you help out with a staff meal for this coming Thursday? Several teachers will have a staff meeting and then an evening event. Please click on this link to sign up to bring something. Thank you!
- Staring on Monday, January 22nd we will have a 2nd breakfast location for 3rd and 4th graders. In order to get the day kicked off right we will have grab and go breakfast items down by the 4th grade and 3rd grade exit door. Students can access their meal account at the mobile cart. 2nd and 5th graders will still get their grab and go items from the cafeteria. Our younger grades eat in the cafeteria. A reminder to those that qualify for free and reduced lunch. This also applies to breakfast! We will send home a flyer with this information. The nutrition services director also wanted me to point out that the original menu had food listed for January 21st. This is a school holiday, so don’t let that confuse you.
- One other announcement – we could really use your help on the PTA Board. There are big and small opportunities. I can put you in touch with our PTA president if you would like more information. Send me an email and well get you connected!
Report cards come home on Monday. On Wednesday Tammy Burns from the Parent Education Advocacy Training Center will host a workshop for parents of students with disabilities at the High School. Please see the flyer for more details and RSVP through this link if you plan to attend! We have a PTA meeting, Thursday, January 17th at 6:30pm. 3rd Grade will present their Journey Back to the Ancient World, the sequel to last year’s movie, where students return to the ancient civilizations of China, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Mali to learn about their relationships to the modern world. After the presentation, in the spirit of our American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge Campaign, Ms. Hanna will get our blood pumping with some fun aerobic exercising!
