This week we have a spirit week to celebrate and prepare for the Friday Night County Wide Fine Arts Festival. Performances and artwork will start at 5pm on Friday at the high school. Chorus performance specifics have been shared by Mrs. Blevins. Here’s what you should be wearing this week: Monday, dress like your favorite musician; Tuesday, wear a band or musical shirt – chorus should wear their chorus t-shirt; Wednesday, wear a wacky mixed up pattern of clothing; Thursday, wear only primary colors (red, yellow or blue); Friday wear all the colors of the rainbow! Back to the calendar. On Wednesday please be sure to send in your Flying Squirrels Nuts for Reading Bookmark! Garden Club meets after school on Wednesday. Wednesday evening is the GCPS Wellness Night. Don’t forget to RSVP at this link. It’s at 6pm at the high school. And then Friday morning, why not stop in the cafeteria between 8 and 8:30am for a fresh cup of coffee.
I did want to take a moment to talk more about this fresh brew. The 5th grade Journey Project this year is called Pouring Hope. The coffee brewed at Pouring Hope is fair trade and made by Sudanese refugees living in Ethiopia. All profits will go to fund the 5th grade Journey project, Operation Refugee, where students will prepare care packages to send to refugee camps around the world. I had a cup last week and it was absolutely delicious. Not a coffee fan? You are welcome to donate to the cause or purchase a bag of the coffee to give to someone as a gift.
