Monday is a Day 1 for Encore.
I’m starting this message with a request for your assistance. The cafeteria has become an increasing loud and unsafe space. Teachers and monitors have addressed incidents as they have arisen, but our school leadership team agreed that we need to hit the reset button. I will be reviewing cafeteria rules with all of the classes as they come to eat on Monday. For the next few weeks all classes will have assigned seats. We will be putting back into place a cup color system that helps to give a visual cue to students as well as feedback to the teacher. Individual student disrespect to cafeteria monitors and adults will be reported to me. I’m attaching our cafeteria rules so that you can also discuss them at home. We also have a tough request for right now, and that is that happy birthday not be sung in the cafeteria. Multiple classes have been joining in and screaming and banging on the table despite being addressed. Certainly bring store bought, ingredient labeled treats and visit to eat lunch, but for now we won’t have the class sing while in the cafeteria. Thank you for your support.
Looking at the calendar this week:
1st grade will take Math MAPS tests and 5th grade will take Reading MAPS on Tuesday. On Thursday 5th grade gets to visit the Goochland Tech Center to see our high school students in action. And then 5th grade will take their Math MAPS test on on Friday. All other MAPS tests are next week. There is no specific studying for MAPS tests. We mainly ask that your child come rested and fed and ready to show what they know!
I’m linking two flyers to this message. One is an order form for Brunswick Stew! This is a new PTA fundraiser. Mrs. Upton is leading the charge with a secret sauce that will make for a yummy meal! She’s fed the staff a few times and we are always raving. The PTA will have samples at the upcoming winter concert. We’ll have 50 first come first serve quarts at the performance. The others will be coming home on January 24th. Orders are due by December 19th. Here is the online link – it costs $11 to cover the credit care fee. Or print the form and send with a check to pay $10.
The second flyer is for an Hour of Code event being hosted by some Goochland High School students on Saturday, December 14th from 2-3 pm at Pamunkey Library. Please see the flyer for more information.
Lastly, First Grade invites you to Smile through Service again! The first round of donations brought in over 400 pounds of food to Goochland Cares! This time, they ask for you to send in gently used clothes, toys, and books all to be given to Goochland Cares. Collection will begin on Monday, December 9th and end on Friday, December 13th. Collection tables will be located by Gym. First Grade thanks you for your smiles!
