I thought I’d send my normal Sunday evening call despite not setting foot in the Randolph building. This message is usually packed with upcoming events for the week and month ahead. Of course, all of those are canceled. Instead, I’ll reiterate some of the messages coming out from Central Office. I’ll also provide a link with a special treat at the end of this message!
I will share some of the key points from our Central Office Team. Please note that this an update as of right now. As we have all found, things continually change, so make sure you are receiving or looking for updates.
- Goochland schools are closed until April 12th, 2020 unless extended further.
- Dr. Geyer sent a letter on March 20th intended to address instructional concerns. I encourage you to read the letter. The biggest take away is to keep your kids reading! Dr. Geyer did provide a link to some virtual resources which do require internet access. As many Goochland families do not have dedicated internet and because we cannot ensure that all families have the resources they need to complete hard copy materials, none of the materials we have shared are required work at this time. National and state directives will help us understand how to move forward with SOL’s and curriculum expectations.
- Most of our teachers have been reaching out to families through Schoology, Seesaw, email, phone calls, and snail-mail. They are available for you. If you have not connected with your child’s teacher I would encourage you to email them in case you are not properly connected. Here is a link to our staff list. Feel free to reach out to me as well. My work cell phone is 804.317.2383.
- Here is a link showing locations for meals that are being provided for any Goochland children. Randolph has staff serving food between 9 am and 12 noon each day, Monday through Friday.
And now for a treat for those of you that have some data left in your plan – it is a 300 MB file! Thanks to the kindness of many book publishers, educators are able to post read-aloud for their kids. This can’t stay online for too long, but enjoy my reading of Roger, the Jolly Pirate by Brett Helquist. Thank you HarperCollins Children’s Books. If you can’t watch the story, give me a call and I’ll say hello to your kiddo! My number is 804.317.2383.
I miss all of you very, very much. I’m hoping that we don’t have to extend things any longer than we already have!
