Another great week – amazing that we are already three weeks in to the school year. I’m seeing a lot of great learning, teaching, talking, building, helping, smiling, and growing. Our teachers care, and you can tell that rubs off on the kids. For instance, I very much appreciated the respectful attitudes in our Roadrunner on the Run assembly today. Kids listened. And it was evident when the presenters quizzed the kids on event deadlines and everyone shouted the right answers. Well done!
There are a few items bubbling around out there that I thought I would address:
Picture day Monday! You’ve got to send the payment in Monday with your student if you plan to buy.
Recess Several families have commented on recess being shortened from last year. I had to do some investigating and indeed folks are right. The scheduled time dropped in order to ensure bigger blocks of instructional time. Our Division Leadership Team agreed on the importance of recess for elementary children. Although we can’t add time back in on the master schedule (right now recess is attached to the end of each grade levels lunch so lengthening would cause major play ground congestion), I am able to encourage teachers to find additional times throughout the week (which may vary week to week) to give children more free play. Wow – that was a really long sentence. Already teachers were doing some adjustment in weeks two and three, given children the breaks they need to be better learners. Many classrooms are also taking advantage of walking club in the morning (15-20 minutes before announcements).
“Back to School Night” Thursday, September 11th at 6:30pm After a PTA meeting you will be invited to your student’s classrooms.
Roadrunner on the Run Students attended a special assembly Friday, learning about the PTA’s biggest school fundraiser. Please take the time to read the information, directing questions to the contact on the letter. It is this primary fundraiser that brings the PTA to provide tremendous resources for our children. New this year: online donations by providing emails, recess with Mr. Gardner for classes with 100% participation, events taking place on the new track!
Join the PTA! The website has been updated – and there are now online ways to pay for membership. Spiritwear sales will also be online soon.
