This past week was a whirlwind. My appreciation to all staff, parents, and students that helped to get our building and systems in place. Often a lot of scheduling, documents, and decisions are made throughout the summer. But with me here only a week and a half we were working quickly to discuss and create what we needed. BUT WE DID IT! (because the Randolph Family is AWESOME). A quick shout out to Amie Potter, the new GMS Assistant Principal, who did so much this summer as Interim Principal to make the transition a smooth one.
I told many people this week that I knew as a parent, RES was a great place. Now as a professional, walking into the culture and infrastructure of Randolph – I can tell you with even more confidence that our kids are blessed to attend. Throughout the week I met with every grade level, the Encore crew, the special education department, our ESL team, our reading specialist, our enrichment teacher, and others. They shared what they are proud of, what they need from me as a leader, how they want to grow as individuals, and short and long term ideas for the RES social and academic culture. I’m absorbing all of these discussion and making short and long term to do lists. But again, the overview is that our children are blessed with a tremendous flexible, driven, and caring staff that supports our GCPS mission – “to maximize the potential of every learner.”
We closed our 2nd faculty session meeting on Wednesday with a hands on team building activity lead by last year’s teacher of the year (art teacher Cindy Edmonds). In line with our “RES is Out of this World” theme we used shaving cream, paint, creativity and team work to create beautiful planets for our office bulletin board. Kindergarten built a beautiful rocket to accompany the design. I encourage folks to take a look just past my office. Here are some pictures:
