Please watch this video to learn more about Journey School. This video was created when we first launched things in 2016. More recently (Fall 2019) the Virginia Department of Education sent in a crew create two videos: Journey School and Journey Projects. As an Apple Distinguish School we have also captured a lot of our work in two different electronic books. Please see our Fall 2019 Book here (requires Apple Books app on iOS or MacOS) and our December 2017 ebook that details our work as a Journey School and as a 1:1 Apple device division.
Randolph is on its own journey to brand and vertically unify staff, students, and the community. It allows us to craft a more specific impact on the culture, character, curriculum, and community of our Randolph family (still aligned with GCPS values, mission, and vision). This process and flexible product allow our team to tailor the support of our students in our current social/educational environment. It also gives a similar language when reaching out for family support.
In May 2016, the staff created the Compass FORWARD Values now being used in assemblies and classrooms: Focus, Optimism, Respect, Wellness, Acceptance, Relationships, and Dedication. Respect, relationships, and acceptance are often major themes when talking about being there for one another.
We also have lots of great things going on with our Journey Projects. Each year our grade levels create an interdisciplinary Project Based Learning opportunity for the students. The projects often last multiple weeks and result in deeper learning. Students explore, create, interact and often make an impact on the larger community through these projects. Click here to see past and present projects that our Roadrunners are working on. You can also visit the school and see the latest Journey Boards that detail the work they are doing.
