At Tuesday night’s School Board meeting, Goochland County Public Schools took its first step toward developing new elementary attendance boundaries to alleviate overcrowding at the division’s elementary schools. A new, larger Goochland Elementary School is scheduled to open in fall 2024.

Scott Leopold, Executive Director at Cooperative Strategies, shared that a Steering Committee comprised of parents, staff, and citizens will meet through April and will review data and maps to develop a boundary map that will be then submitted to Dr. Jeremy Raley, Division Superintendent. Dr. Raley will review the committee’s recommendation and make his recommendation to the School Board, with a final decision scheduled for June 2022.

A dedicated project website has been developed that will be updated as new information is shared.  Regular updates will be posted to the site to provide one online location for stakeholders to review materials, maps, proposed adjustments, and recommendations. This information can be accessed directly at https://coopstratprojects.com/gcps/ or through the school division’s website at https://goochlandschools.org.  Click on the Boundary Adjustments button.

Public meetings will take place in the coming months.  In addition, to ensure the voice of all stakeholders is included in the process, a survey will be released in March to provide the Goochland community with an opportunity to share their opinions about new attendance boundaries.
