Mr. Montgomery’s Make It Your Business I & II classes are learning about Financial Literacy. They invited Mrs. Tori Filas, a Sr. Financial Educator from Virginia Credit Union to bring an engaging lesson on Budgeting & Saving. Her lesson included a Real-World Budget Simulation and an M & M Budget Game. It’s great to enjoy a sweet treat after a lesson!

Yesterday, Goochland had an Apple Distinguished Schools visit! We had visitors from Apple and from schools all across Virginia. It was great to share how GCPS is integrating technology into our classrooms to enhance teaching and learning in innovative ways.
At GMS, we highlighted how Mr. Tate is working with our Robotics Team, the Junkyard Pups, and how he uses robotics in his Inventions and Innovations class. Visitors also saw Ms. Parks' Art 7 class and how she uses digital tools to enhance her art class. Finally, they stopped by Mr. Beasley's Tech Innovations class to see how he in using coding in his class, like their project to create an airplane launcher with Hummingbird robots.
The classroom visits highlighted the power of collaboration, student voice, and teacher/student engagement in elevating educational experiences for our students here at GCPS!

Mr. Beasley & Ms. Miller worked on a new project using LEDs & Microbits in his Tech Systems class. First, they practiced soldered, putting wires onto the LEDs to be able to use the Microbits. Then, the class tried a variety of codes on their LEDs in the Microsoft Makecode space.

The GMS SCA and the Goochland Christmas Mother are partnering together to collect food items for our local community. GMS students have been asked to specifically donate canned fruit and tomatoes and instant potatoes; however, any non-perishable food items will be accepted. Students will be holding a friendly grade-level competition, with the grade who donates the most food items winning outdoor seating at lunch, PBIS points, and a movie! All donations must be received by the morning of Friday, November 15.

Ms. Parks' art class explored VR as they used Gravity Sketch to continue in their unit of designing shoes. Students used the app to draw, color and design a shoe in 3D after going through these same steps in multiple mediums in art!
